The Bullfighting Fair of Olivenza is held since 1990, when the reform of the bullring began to be as we know it today, with 5,600 localities and all the necessary facilities and services. The bullring is managed by the company ‘Ruedo de Olivenza’, from the ‘Fusión Internacional de la Tauromaquia’ group, with the Extremadura-born José Cutiño in charge.
It is the first great appointment of the Spanish season, the first place where the most famous figures of bullfighting and fighting-bull ranches go, so it enjoys a great artistic and economic impact. It is also frequented by many personalities. In parallel, the Bull Fair is celebrated with exhibitions, shows, gastronomy and one of the most important livestock show; which translates into one of the great injections of tourism in the area.
The cycle takes place the first weekend of March and usually consists of two steers-bullfight and three bullfights, with double session (morning and evening) on Saturday and Sunday. They are usually full with ‘No tickets’ hanging, so we recommend booking tickets with time.

The Bull Fair of Olivenza takes place the first weekend of March every year and marks the beginning of the bullfighting season in Extremadura. It is declared a Feast of Tourist Interest of the region and, in addition to a large fairground in which all kinds of exhibitions, debates, exhibitions or ‘tentaderos’ take place, their bullfighting posters announce the most popular bullfighters as well as some of the most outstanding fighting bull ranches.
Olivenza also trusts young bullfighters and its cycle includes bullfights with steers; it’s also often the scene of important alternatives. It’s a must of national importance.
Surrounded by meadows of holm oaks and cork oaks, tourists can enjoy the locality of Extremadura and its templar origin visiting its castle, which houses the Ethnographic Museum Extremeño González Santana; the House of Mercy or the Church of Santa Maria Magdalena
Coinciding with this livestock fair, the Olivenza Bullfighting Fair is held; the bullfights of that weekend have special relevance in the calendar of bullfighting lovers because it marks the beginning of the bullfighting season in Extremadura. It is celebrated on the first days of March (the first weekend). And it usually consists of five festivities: two novilladas (bullfights) and three bullfights. It brings together the best bullfighters of the bullfighting ladder, the great fighting bull ranches and the young promises of the bullfighting schools of Extremadura.
